A ferry ride, a walk around the base, the small but affecting immigration museum on Ellis. Book tickets ahead — crown access sells out weeks in advance, but pedestal is plenty.

Between 49th and 60th: the luxury row — Bergdorf, Tiffany, Saks. On the way, duck into St. Patrick's Cathedral, stand under the vaulting, keep walking.
