Start at Brookfield Place in the Financial District and walk the Hudson River waterfront all the way north to Hudson Yards. It's flat, scenic, and one of the best walks in the city on a clear day.

Where the West Side walk lets you out. The Vessel is divisive sculpture, the shops are glossy, and the High Line connects right here — worth stringing into the same afternoon.

Drift west of the main drag — past 7th Avenue — to find the quiet, crooked blocks where the village still feels village-sized. Cafés, bookstores, brownstones.

Walk the Brooklyn Bridge

Start at City Hall, walk the pedestrian path across to Brooklyn — about twenty minutes. On a clear day it's one of the nicest things you can do in this city. Morning is quieter; sunset is photogenic and crowded.

It's free. It's a proper boat — no seasickness. You get the Statue of Liberty as a bonus, and the return sunset view of lower Manhattan is postcard-grade.

Even if you're not catching a train: walk in, look up. The celestial ceiling is painted in reverse, the marble is worn soft by a century of shoes, and the four-faced brass clock is the city's favorite meeting point.
